Overview​

AI Web Research allows:

  • 🔍 AI searches Google for relevant information
  • 📰 Incorporates current articles, guides, and resources
  • ✅ Generates breakdowns based on latest data
  • 🎯 More accurate, contextual steps

Best for tasks with:

  • Changing requirements or regulations
  • Current year specifics (2024 tax rules)
  • Recent technology or tools
  • Latest best practices

Without Web Research (Default)​

You: "File 2024 taxes"
AI: Uses training data (may be outdated)
Result: Generic tax filing steps

AI generates from:

  • General knowledge of tax filing
  • Common patterns
  • Generic workflows

May miss:

  • 2024-specific rule changes
  • New IRS forms
  • Current tax software options
  • Recent policy updates

With Web Research (Premium Feature)​

You: "File 2024 taxes"
AI: Searches "2024 tax filing requirements", "IRS 2024 forms"
AI: Reads top results for current info
AI: Generates breakdown with latest knowledge
Result: Accurate, current steps for 2024

AI searches for:

  • "2024 tax filing requirements"
  • "IRS 2024 updates"
  • "Best tax software 2024"

Then incorporates findings into breakdown.

Includes:

When Creating Task​

  1. Type your task in input field
  2. Click Globe icon (🌐) next to input
  3. Icon turns green when enabled
  4. Generate task - AI will research first
  5. See "🔍 Researching the web for context..." during generation

When Regenerating​

  1. Open task detail sheet
  2. Click "Regenerate"
  3. Toggle "Web Research" in modal
  4. Click "Regenerate Steps"
  5. AI searches web before generating new breakdown

Visual Indicators​

Enabled state:

  • Globe icon turns from gray to green
  • Tooltip shows "AI will search the web"
  • Generation message: "🔍 Researching the web..."

Task generated with research:

  • Source badge shows "🔍" on task card
  • Indicates AI used web search for this breakdown

What AI Searches​

Automatic queries based on task:

  • Task-specific terms
  • Current year context
  • Relevant domain keywords
  • Best practices queries

Example task: "Refinance mortgage"

AI might search:

  • "mortgage refinance rates 2024"
  • "when to refinance mortgage 2024"
  • "refinance closing costs typical"
  • "best mortgage lenders 2024"

You don't control queries - AI determines what to search based on task needs.

What Web Research Can't Do​

❌ Access paywalled content - Only reads publicly available pages
❌ Login to accounts - Can't access your personal data
❌ Read PDFs - Text-only web pages
❌ Real-time data - Search is snapshot, not live updating
❌ Guarantee accuracy - Web info may be wrong, AI does its best

Quality Depends On​

✅ Task specificity - "2024 federal taxes" better than "taxes"
✅ Search result quality - AI limited by what Google returns
✅ Task searchability - Some topics have better web info than others

Free Tier​

Web Research:

  • 1 use per day (resets midnight UTC)
  • Must choose: Research OR Reference URLs (1 enhanced feature/day total)
  • After limit: Feature locks until tomorrow

When Quota Expired:

  • Globe icon shows lock
  • Click triggers upgrade prompt
  • Can still generate without research

Premium​

Web Research:

  • ✅ Unlimited uses per day
  • ✅ Combine with Reference URLs
  • ✅ Never locked
  • ✅ Use on every task if desired

Value: If you research-heavy tasks daily, Premium ($35 lifetime) removes friction.

No. AI searches web and synthesizes, but web info may be wrong. Critical tasks: Verify against official sources.

Can I see what AI searched for?​

Not currently. Source badge shows research was used. Query visibility coming in future update.

How many search queries does AI make?​

Typically 2-4 queries per task. Depends on task complexity and AI's needs.

Can I suggest specific search queries?​

Not currently. AI determines what to search. You control via task description and notes.

Does this use my Google account?​

No. AI searches via Google but not tied to your personal account. Anonymous search.

What if research finds conflicting info?​

AI synthesizes and chooses most authoritative sources. May hedge with "check latest requirements" in steps.
